Another day at this office for Xbox is very much unlike a day at the office for many other companies. For Xbox, another day seemingly means another acquisition. And once again, they had their version of “another day at the office.”

On Wednesday, Xbox officially confirmed that Zenimax Media—the parent company of Bethesda Softworks—is coming aboard. The award-winning gaming publisher joins id Software, Arkane, Machine Games, and Bethesda as part of the family of media companies operating under the Xbox umbrella.

Stemming from normal tradition, Microsoft did not hold a complete showcase. Instead, they released a blog post welcoming Bethesda along with details of what people can expect moving forward. The blog also notes that a limited number of titles under these studios will be exclusive, and additional Bethesda games will slide into Xbox Game Pass as early as this week.

“We look forward to empowering Bethesda’s creative teams to reach even more players around the world,” reads the announcement. “Now that we’re one team, we can start working together on the future ahead. We will have more to share about what’s next for our teams later this year. In the meantime, to properly celebrate this special moment, we are bringing additional Bethesda games into Xbox Game Pass later this week.”

Although the titles joining Xbox Game Pass or when the changes will go down are currently undisclosed, we are mid-week and if the blog post’s information is true, we should have an update soon.

On a touching note, Microsoft took time to pay tribute to the late Robert A. Altman, founder of ZeniMax Media. The video game mogul’s passing on February 3, 2021 sent shockwaves through the gaming community, as he was regarded as a premier figure in the industry. His passion for any and all things games as well as his dedication to employees and friends were some of the qualities he was best known for.

“We would also like to honor the life and memory of my close friend Robert A. Altman, founder of ZeniMax Media,” reads Microsoft’s blog post memorial piece. “Robert believed deeply in the power of gaming and we are privileged to be able to continue his work by joining forces with the teams he built and led for many years.  I will miss the opportunity to work directly with him on the future of our combined teams but I know that his spirit will live on in the shared work we do and motivate us to make this partnership all he envisioned.”

While the recent passing of Altman is sad, there is no doubt that he would want gamers everywhere to celebrate the opportunities ZeniMax Media will have after joining forces with industry giant Xbox.

Let’s have a round of applause for Altman, ZeniMax Media, Xbox, and gamers everywhere.
