What To Do If You’re Waiting On A PS5: Top Five Tips To Stave Off The FOMO

The PlayStation 5 has been out since November of 2020, but for so many, the wait for this new console is still not over. With only a limited number of consoles made, scalpers are up to their bothersome tricks, and if you’re not willing to go down that back road, the PS5 is something that many of us have still only read and watched videos about. If you’re waiting on your PS5 and itching to get in on the action, read on for the top five ways you can feel a part of the PS5 excitement while you wait for your very own new console.

In fifth place: be sure to play on any of the older consoles you may have, whether they are PlayStation consoles or from other brands. You’ll enjoy the nostalgia of it, and it will both give you something to occupy your time and make the PS5 that much more amazing. When you get one, you’ll think, “This is so much more advanced than the older ones!” and have a whole new appreciation for it.

Coming in at number four: put a lot of time and effort into deciding what games and accessories you will want to purchase to go along with the PS5. Once you get the console, you will inevitably want to play every available game and have all of the newest gadgets, and you may end up spending way more than you really should or need to. Take the time now to make a list of the games you really want to play and the accessories you really think will enhance the experience so that when the time comes, you don’t go too crazy with games and add-ons.

In the third spot: replay your favorite PlayStation games that are or will be available on the PS5. Most of the games available for the PS4 will also work on the PS5, and PlayStation has said that many of the games will actually run even better on the new PS5 software (they have also mentioned that there are some features of PS4 games that won’t be 100% compatible with the PS5.) If you’re looking for ways to make sure you’re ready for the PS5, get out all your favorite PS4 games and remind yourself of all the things you have to look forward to with the PS5.

In second place: watch videos from your favorite streamers who already have the PS5 so that you can enjoy the console and get used to it before you actually play it. Watching your favorite streamers is always a good way to get to know a new game or console because you get to learn about the new product from someone who 1) is entertaining for you to watch, and 2) potentially plays in the same style that you do, since we often choose streamers to watch based on our own gaming experience. This will give you the opportunity to learn the tricks of the console before you play it yourself.

And in the number one spot: research everything you can about the PS5. From watching streamers who already have it to looking up its information on PlayStation’s site to scrolling through Reddit for pictures and video, if you’re dying for something to do before you have your own PS5, learn as much as you can. That way, when you have it, you’ll be all ready to dive in and start playing!

For all of you who are still waiting on your PS5, whether by choice or simply because there aren’t any available to you, it is certainly a difficult time. You already know how exciting it will be to play new and old games on this new, remarkable console, and you’re still left waiting. But whether you choose to work through all of these tips, or you just pick your favorites, I hope they help fill the time left until you have the console and make it even more exciting when you can finally play on your own PS5.
