TSM Signs SwordArt to Roster, Breaks Contract Record

SwordArt’s signing also comes with a large contract. As reported by the Washington Post, his contract will pay him $6 million for the next two years. This makes it the largest contract of the LCS this year.

SwordArt comes hot off of a stellar run at Worlds 2020 with Suning Gaming where he and his team placed second to eventual winners Damwon Gaming. Prior to joining the LPL, he was on well-known LMS organization Flash Wolves where he was featured alongside players like Hung “Karsa” Hao-Hsuan and Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang, making Quarterfinals at Worlds and Semifinals at the Mid Season Invitational.

TSM acquired SwordArt after a Summer Split championship but an abysmal performance at Worlds led to their becoming the first Pool One Seed to go 0-6 in the Group Stage. They have already made major changes to the lineup, including the acquisition of Tristan “PowerOfEvil” Schrage. Syft also reported last week that a deal was in the works to acquire Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon but TSM has not confirmed this acquisition. TSM will also be retaining jungler Mingyi “Spica” Lu as the only player from the 2020 Lineup.

This announcement also comes off the heels of the retirement of long-star players of Søren “Bjergsen” Bjerg (who will become TSM’s Head Coach) and Yilliang (Peter) “Doublelift” Peng. It is yet to be confirmed who will be replacing Doublelift but an announcement is likely before the end of the year. For Suning, it is yet to see who will replace SwordArt. The rookie lineup was a sight to see with SwordArt at Worlds this year, and the organization has big shoes to fill for the incoming support.
