The Top Five Games To Play If You Miss Hanging Out With Your Friends

One of the toughest parts of this pandemic has been our inability to hang out with our friends like we used to. While staying safe and distanced is something we all need to do, it’s still okay to be sad that you can’t just go hang out with your friends in the same ways you always have. If you’ve been missing your friends, gaming can be a great way to find new ways to spend time together. If you’ve already been gaming together, there can be many games to play together which will really up the fun factor on spending time together virtually. Without further ado, it’s time to pop on your best headset with a mic, gather on Discord, and enjoy these top five games that you can play with all of the friends you have been missing.

Coming in at number five is Path of Exile from Grinding Gear Games. Path of Exile is excellent because you can share it with friends, play a character in a remarkably-built fantasy world, and work out your frustrations through destroying plenty of monsters. But even moreso, one of the most compelling things about Path of Exile is that it is free! A lot of free-to-play games out there can end up being a bit on the lesser end of gameplay and design, but Path of Exile is an extremely high quality game which is accessible for everyone, and that is just awesome. If you and your friends are looking for a game where you can run around destroying bad guys and having a blast the entire time, hop on the Path of Exile train and enjoy an amazing (and did I mention free?) completely exhilarating game.

In fourth place is Phasmophobiafrom Kinetic Games. Phasmophobia isn’t for the faint of heart; it has more than its fair share of jumpscares and is, overall, a very intense horror game. However, there’s something really bonding about a good horror game that you can play with your friends. The fear and constant looking-over-your-shoulder will bring you together as you all work to make it through this delightfully terrifying experience. Phasmophobia is an incredibly well-made ghost hunt game, with some of the best features of great horror games (truly terrifying monsters, fitting graphics, a haunting setting) coming together to make something incredible. If you want to learn even more about this great game, check out this article from Syft’s Mariah Qaiser, where she goes even deeper into what makes Phasmophobia so terrifying and such a great bonding experience.

In third place is Minecraft from Mojang Studios. If you haven’t played Minecraft before, really, what have you been doing with your life? This game is amazing, and it has so many options for activities you can do both on your own and with your friends. From mining, to building, to adventuring across the Minecraft world, there is something for everyone, and every part of Minecraft can be made even better by having your friends along for the ride. If you’re looking for a lighthearted game to bring all of you closer together in an easy way, without any super-intense action, Minecraft is simply perfect.

In second place is World of Warcraft from Blizzard Entertainment. If you’ve read my articles before, then you already know how much I love WoW. With fantastical gameplay, amazing character options, and a stunning world to explore, WoW is simply one of the best games out there, and it really is perfect for playing with your friends. You can adventure and quest together, you can goof off and do ridiculous things, or you can just chill together and do whatever you like throughout the game. Whatever you choose, there is something in WoW for everyone and for every group of friends.

And coming in at number one is Super Smash Bros. Ultimate from Bandai Namco Studios and Sora Ltd. This game really is the Ultimate (I enjoy puns and I will not apologize for it) game to enjoy with your friends. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brings together every Nintendo character you have ever loved and gives you the opportunity to duke it out with your friends in over 100 arena options. This game has been bringing people together for quite some time prior to the pandemic, but now, with all of us having even more of a need to hang out and release some tension, this delightful action-packed fighting game is the best choice for anyone and everyone.

These five games all offer different elements of being together, even when you can’t physically be together. There is never a bad time to play these games (although I wouldn’t recommend Phasmophobia right before bedtime) but these are especially good options for right now, when we cannot all hang out all together and need something to virtually bring us close. If you’ve been missing your friends, pick up any of these games and get a little closer together in this time when we have to remain apart.
