SumaiL Joins OG Dota to Replace ana

After playing the stand-in for Team Liquid in the WePlay AniMajor, the North American star player, Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan, has rejoined OG after almost a year.

OG welcomed the “King” back to its squad after Australian position one player Anathan “ana” Pham quit OG and retired from competitive Dota in yesterday’s announcement. SumaiL will be taking up the reins as a position one carry in the team.

“We’re more than delighted to have him on our side once again,” OG said in a statement. “Sumail’s reputation is more than accurate. His kindness only matched by his commitment make him one of the most valuable assets a team can have. It’s always a pleasure for us to work with such a talented and hardworking player.”

Back in 2020, SumaiL had replaced ana when the latter had taken a break from Dota. In his short stint with OG in the 2019 DPC season, SumaiL was instrumental in OG’s qualification to the Los Angeles Major, which was later canceled due to COVID-19. He had also helped OG secure podium finishes for three Tier 2 tournaments. He had played games with the team despite being stuck in the USA with ping issues as he played matches in Europe.

“Sumail has always been one of my favorite teammates and players. We are thrilled to have him back and I’m personally delighted to have him back in OG,” said OG CEO JMR Luna.

SumaiL had a brief stint in the CIS region during the last two months of 2020 with RAMZES666’s stack, Just Error. Following this, he had been a free agent right until Team Liquid picked him up to replace offlaner Samuel “Boxi” Svahn. Boxi had decided to take a brief leave from the team, citing personal reasons. After a decent Wild Card run and a rather disappointing Group Stage run at the AniMajor, SumaiL was let go as Boxi came back to play with Liquid.

OG has now re-acquired SumaiL for the upcoming The International Regional Open Qualifiers. You can catch him playing in the last pre-TI tournament, the ESL One Summer 2021 (stream link), which starts on June 16, 2021, and later on July 7, 2021, OG makes a last-ditch effort to make it to TI-10 in the European Division OQ matches.

Current OG Dota 2 roster:

Topias “Topson” Taavistainen
