Today, Sega announced the remaster of the 2010 Nintendo DS and Wii Sonic game, Sonic Colors. Celebrating Sonic’s 30 year anniversary, the remastered version, titled Sonic Colors: Ultimate, will launch on the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows PC, and Xbox One platforms on September 7, 2021.

Although the game won’t be natively playable on the Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5, it will be backwards compatible. Sonic Colors: Ultimate will feature enhanced graphics, new power-ups, a new game mode, and cosmetics including ones from the 2020 Sonic The Hedgehog movie. California based Blind Squirrels Games, the studio known for BioShock: The Collection and Mass Effect Legendary Edition, is behind this Sonic Colors: Ultimate’s development.

Sega announced the remaster via the Sonic Central stream on Thursday. Alongside this news, Sega also announced the release of a two-part animated mini-series called Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps. This mini-series will tie in with the release of Sonic Colors: Ultimate and will feature Roger Craig Smith, the voice actor for Sonic.
