Earlier this year, it was announced that the Sanrio Collaboration Pack amiibo cards would be arriving for Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Scanning these amiibo cards will allow players to obtain the six special Sanrio-themed villagers along with Sanrio-themed items and furniture. These villagers and items were previously available in Animal Crossing: New Leaf, via amiibo cards that were released only in Japan in November 2016. They were also available in Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, but only during a summer event in 2019. Scanning the amiibo cards from the Animal Crossing: New Leaf pack on an Animal Crossing: New Horizons game would allot the player a poster of the respective Sanrio character, but nothing else. Now, the amiibo cards are being rereleased for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and will be making their way to North America for the first time. This newly updated pack will include the special themed-villagers, their furniture, and additional items. The Animal Crossing Sanrio Collaboration pack will officially be released on March 26, 2021.

The Animal Crossing Sanrio Collaboration pack will include all six Sanrio-themed villagers and their themed items. The Sanrio characters featured in the collaboration are Hello Kitty, Pompompurin, Little Twin Stars, Cinnamoroll, My Melody, and Keroppi. Each of the villagers in the collaboration are inspired by the characters, however they all share the trait of being a different animal than that of their Sanrio representative. These villagers include Rilla, a Hello Kitty-themed Gorilla; Marty, a Pompompurin-themed Cub; Etoile, a Little Twin Stars-themed Sheep; Chai, a Cinnamoroll-themed Elephant; Chelsea, a My Melody-themed Deer; and Toby, a Keroppi-themed Rabbit. Scanning the amiibo cards from the updated Sanrio Collaboration pack will allow players to invite these six villagers to their islands and make their themed items available for purchase in the game.

Each villager from the Sanrio Collaboration pack will come with a house fully decorated with special themed furniture of their representative Sanrio character. These types of items include chairs, tables, dressers, beds, rugs, sofas, and clocks. There are even items that directly reference specific elements of the characters that inspired them, like the Cinnamoroll tea set and the Little Twin Stars cloud-making machine. In addition to these, clothing and accessories based off of the Sanrio characters will be available for the player to wear, including various outfits, hats, shoes, and hoods.
