Riot Games Unveiled VCT Game Changers for Women, Other Marginalized Genders

Starting from the launch, Valorant’s competitive scene has been growing. Last year, Riot Games partnered up with several different organizations to provide Ignition Series; with the beginning of 2021, they kicked off Valorant Champions Tour all around the world, and now, the company announced the VCT Game Changers program to give new opportunities to women and other marginalized genders within the scene.

The VCT Game Changers program will feature two core competitive initiatives: the VCT Game Changers Series and the VCT Game Changers Academy. VCT Game Changers Series will be launched in multiple regions while offering top-tier competition during 2021 and will be similar in scale to Ignition Series. The new series is going to take place in late March with the first North American event.

On the other hand, VCT Game Changers Academy will be the place for semi-pros and grassroots level. Within the program, monthly tournaments will be created by partnering up with Galorant that helped Riot Games organize the “For the Women Summer Showdown” last September. Even though it won’t be as big as VCT Game Changers, the academy will be the chance for those who want to perform their talents in a competitive arena.

“Competing in games as a woman can be a daunting task, oftentimes resulting in a very real competitive disadvantage,” said Anna Donlon, the executive producer of Valorant, on Valorant’s YouTube Channel. “And while we are taking steps to address this in-game with improvements to things like chat and voice comms and griffing, we think there’s another really cool stuff we can take with esports.”

The VCT Game Changers program will be brought with large prizes according to Riot Games.
