PGL Will Host the First CSGO Major of 2021

LAN tournaments are the heart of esports, but COVID-19 took it from us for a year. So many big events had to be canceled and have been turned into online competition during this time. Organizers hope for the best and the return of offline events and made plans in the light of this as PGL did. On Jan. 14, PGL announced the first CS:GO Major after a two-year break.

CS:GO majors have been the scenes of high-level competition and the hosts of atmospheres full of passion since the game was released. For the first time in history, a year was completed without a major as ESL One: Rio 2020, which was set to be played between Nov. 9-22, and CS:GO Major Championship Spring 2021 were cancelled. Hopefully, we’ll have a major this year and it will be PGL Major Stockholm 2021.

PGL Major Stockholm will be held in Sweden; this will be the third major in the country and the first one in Stockholm. Hosting 24 teams, the major will be played between Oct. 23 – Nov. 7 and will have the biggest prize pool in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive history at $2 million. The participating teams are going to be determined with their region rankings.

“First of all, my colleagues and I are passionate fans of CS. We grew up and watched this game getting bigger and bigger, just at the same pace as our development as a company,” said PGL CEO Silviu Stroie. “We have timeless memories with our past Counter-Strike shows, and, honestly, we owe a lot to this game, as players and as a company. We believe that this community deserves the best product this franchise has ever seen. Our goal is to celebrate the game in the best way possible, and we will work hard for this.”

Even though the details of the event will be published as the event’s time comes closer, PGL Major Stockholm 2021 is going to be the first Major which will be broadcasted in 4K 60 FPS.
