OpTic Chicago has been slightly below the expectations since the beginning of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, but Scump, Dashy, FormaL and Envoy have gathered together for a strong finish to the regular season. After seeing Atlanta FaZe in OpTic’s group, we all thought FaZe was going to finish the group stage in first place and qualify for the second round in Major V, but it was not the case this time. OpTic had a great comeback and finished the group stage in the first place to qualify for the second round with the Dallas Empire.
The Stage V Major consisted of New York, Minnesota and Seattle Home Series. OpTic had two wins against Paris Legion and New York Subliners during the New York Home Series. What made OpTic the leader was its 3-2 win against the Atlanta FaZe in the Minnesota leg of the competition.
The team’s first game in the Seattle Home Series was against the London Royal Ravens and the England representative was already eliminated, so we knew it was a David vs. Goliath situation. As a result, OpTic started the group stage with a solid 3-0 win. Even though it faced a 3-2 loss against the LA Thieves, OpTic still managed to protect the top spot using the tiebreaker over Atlanta.
OpTic Chicago may be the most consistent team upon the championship qualifiers. Out of four stages that have been played, OpTic Chicago had three fourth-place standings and a fifth-sixth-place finish in Stage 2. Being consistent may not be good sometimes and OpTic’s current state is a great example as it looks like a consistent fourth placer.
OpTic will face the winner of the Toronto Ultra and LA Thieves matchup. Both teams looked strong coming into the Major, but you have to beat the best if you want to be the best. If Scump’s team wins the Stage V Major, it will acquire 75 more CDL points which may improve its standing depending on other results.
