Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition Announced, Brings DLSS 2.0 & Ray-Tracing

The Metro series has been a lauded game series for more than a decade now. Matching the footsteps of many other developers and keeping up with the times, Metro’s developer – 4A Games – announced the arrival of an Enhanced Edition of the game for the PC named Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition. The Enhanced PC Edition of the game offers Ray-Tracing and DLSS 2.0 support if you have the high-end offerings from Nvidia. As of yet, AMD does not provide support for DLSS 2.0.

This announcement is in addition to the game coming to the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 and taking advantage of their Ray-Tracing capabilities. “We took the decision to radically overhaul our proprietary 4A Engine and realise our ambitions for a fully Ray Traced experience on next gen consoles and high-end PC,” 4A said in their blog post.

“We have built an all-new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline that brings a number of optimizations, upgrades, and new features to the Ray Traced Global Illumination,” 4A said, adding, “…as well as an upgraded implementation of our powerful Temporal Reconstruction technology to further boost resolution, visual detail and performance.”

The Xbox Series X and the PlayStation 5 will run the game on 4K/60 FPS with permanent Ray-Tracing. The game also benefits from the new consoles’ SSDs enabling faster loading times, their hardware enabling 4K texture packs, “and a range of platform specific features including spatial audio and controller latency.”

For the Xbox Series S, 4A is aiming for a consistent 1080p experience owing to the aging hardware, although the entire game will be fully Ray-Traced. If you already own the game and are buying the upcoming new-gen consoles, the new feature-rich version of Metro Exodus will be provided free of cost to you.

4A provided a handy image detailing all the features that the upcoming consoles and the new PC version of the game will have:

As mentioned before, the PC version of Metro Exodus will be free for all pre-existing owners of the game, but the game will be provided as a standalone title. This is in part due to the complexities that 4A had to deal with in leveraging the new graphics technologies. As they said, “It is not a simple ‘patch’ to the base game.” This free ‘upgrade’ applies to owners of the game on Epic Games Store, Steam, and GoG.

The Enhanced Edition requires players to own “a Ray Tracing capable GPU as the minimum spec” to take advantage of the “new Fully Ray Traced Lighting Pipeline and the latest (NVIDIA & AMD) hardware to offer the ultimate Ray Traced experience”.

Additionally, 4A and Deep Silver will release a Mac version of the game in March, with the Linux version following later in the year.
