League of Legends Earned $1.75 Billion in 2020

Any video game that was released in 2009 can be considered as an old game in the gaming industry, and usually old games aren’t played regularly. However, if developers take care of their titles, bring innovative updates in the game and pay attention to the community, their games can remain popular even after eleven years. League of Legends is one of the biggest examples of this phenomenon. According to SuperData’s “2020 Year-In-Review Report,” the MOBA game generated $1.75 billion revenue in 2020.

This isn’t the year that League of Legends profited most; Riot Games’ first title made $2.1 billion in 2017. But still, it’s pretty impressive figures considering there is an ongoing pandemic in 2020.

Also, League of Legends succeeded in entering the list of top 10 free-to-play titles, which generated revenue most, as 6th place. In the list that has been dominated by mobile games, there are only two non-mobile titles, and one of them is LoL. Actually, these stats are incredible and they show how mobile gaming gets bigger every year.

Aside from LoL’s accomplishment, the brand new FPS title from Riot Games, VALORANT, found huge success in 2020. The shooter game became the ninth highest non-mobile free-to-play title, and its launch month earnings surpassed its rival title Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Riot Games has a busy schedule these days. The company tries to improve its existing titles while developing new games such as Ruined King. Also the new ranked season of League of Legends has started, so players began their climb to the glory once more.
