LCS Mid-Season Showdown Finals to Take Place In Person

For the first time since the pandemic began, the North American LCS is heading to an in-person finals. Riot Games announced today that the Mid-Season Showdown Grand Finals and the Finals Qualifier will head to the famous Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.

The Greek Theatre, where names like Billie Eilish, Neil Diamond and other artists have graced its outdoor stage, will host the finals weekend on April 11-12. Due to the ongoing pandemic and for the safety of players, staff and local residents, a live audience will not be held at the event.

As previously covered, the Mid-Season Showdown will take on a different format compared to previous formats.

The top four teams, Cloud9, TSM, Team Liquid and 100 Thieves, will battle it out in the upper bracket. The winners will proceed to the upper bracket finals while the losers will have one last shot in the lower bracket where Dignitas and Evil Geniuses will be waiting. The winners move on while the losers get knocked out of the tournament.

The winners of both the upper bracket and lower brackets will face off in a similar fashion. The winner of the upper bracket will proceed straight to the finals. Meanwhile the loser of the game as well as the winner of the second game will go on to the finals qualifier to see who will join the winner in the Grand Finals.

In addition to the outdoor amphitheatre, the finals will be presented by Grubhub. The popular meal delivery service has been a partner of the LCS since the beginning of 2021 where they have been offering perks to fans who use the service in between games.

Finally, new cosmetics will be added to the in-game Summoner’s Rift during the finals as well as to the Baron Nashor pit with sponsorship flare from GrubHub and Redbull.

The LCS Mid-Season Showdown begins Saturday with TSM versus Team Liquid and we’ll bring you the action right as it happens.
