In Remembrance of Maurice ‘Fero’ Henriquez

Loss of life is always devastating, but the loss of 21-year-old Maurice “Fero” Henriquez, a professional Call of Duty League player, is especially painful. Maurice inspired many and was beloved by all in a life that was taken too soon. Today, we want to celebrate the life that Maurice was able to live in his time with us on Earth.

Maurice was born on March 27th, 1999 and began his professional gaming career in 2014 with the now-disbanded Denial Esports team. From this early beginning all the way to his passing, Maurice played on many legendary teams and became something of a legend himself. On Team Kaliber, he placed 2nd at Champs 2018 in his rookie season, and on the Florida Mutineers, he won three championships in the CDL’s inaugural year. Maurice made quite a name for himself through exceptional gaming capabilities and a personality that charmed everyone in the room.

This has made his loss even more devastating. There has been an outpouring of love for Maurice in the gaming community online, where many people are taking the time to reach out and say how much he will be missed and how he will be remembered as a great player and an even better friend.

He passed away on November 10th, 2020. At this time, it has been announced by his friends and colleagues at the Florida Mutineers that he passed away due to multiple heart attacks. Rumors have been circulating about whether he may have taken his own life, but the effect of these rumors has only served to add to the pain that his family is experiencing. We at Syft hope you will join us in remembering the good instead of dwelling on rumors so that we all— fans, friends, and family— can remember Maurice in peace and kindness, as he would want to be remembered.

No matter what Maurice meant to you, whether he was a friend, a role model, a colleague, or a family member, I hope you find solace in knowing that he will forever be remembered as a kind, talented, and utterly beloved friend to everyone who had the great honor to know him.
