Hugh Grant, Sophia Lillis Added to Cast of Upcoming Dungeons & Dragons Movie

As if Paramount and eOne’s untitled Dungeons & Dragons feature didn’t have enough star power, the distinguished table of talent will soon be enriched with two more familiar faces.
Coming on the heels of reports Chris Pine is joining the cast and Derek Kolstad (creator of John Wick) will take over as lead writer, actors Hugh Grant (The Man from U.N.C.L.E) and Sophia Lillis (IT) were also announced as new additions to the roundtable of talent.

According to reports from Deadline, Grant will assume the role of the main antagonist by the name Forge Fletcher while Sophia Lillis’ character will go by the name of Doric. Other actors to have already signed the dotted line include Rege-Jean Page (Bridgerton), Justice Smith (Detective Pikachu), and Michelle Rodriguez (Fast & Furious franchise). With a list like that, you can understand why the film is described as “big budget.”

The upcoming film will be directed by actor John Francis Daly (Freaks and Geeks, Bones) and author Jonathan Goldstein (Lenny Bruce is Dead). Both directors have accumulated a laundry list of successful projects and accolades which should give fans hope, and the involvement of Kolstad was met with resounding applause. Not only did Kolstad become a premier figure of the action/thriller genre with his creation of John Wick, he has a bevy of additional video adaptation experience including Hulu’s Hitman: Agent 47 and Marvel’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier T.V. miniseries.

As for Grant, it’ll be interesting to see how he tackles the role of lead villain. As a Golden Globe winner with 29 theatrical releases under his belt, Grant certainly has the chops to pull off such a titular role. Lillis is an up-and-coming actress with plenty of screen time which proves she’s an exceptional young thespian. Many will know her from her excellent rendition of Beverly Marsh in the adaptation of Stephen King’s IT. If we learned anything from her time in the “Loser’s Club,” we know she has the ability to take a role and run with it.

As of now, plot details of the big-budget feature adaptation have yet to be divulged. With that being said, Daly did give fans a little look behind the curtain in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

“We want it to be fun. It’s not an out-and-out comedy, but it is an action-fantasy movie with a lot of comedic elements and characters we hope people will really get into and enjoy watching their adventures.”
With that tidbit from Daly, eager fans are more than interested in what the final product may look like. But with an immense amount of talent involved in the creative process, I have faith the D&D fantasy world is in good hands.
