There are so many Pokemon. From adorable to dangerous to downright ugly, there are almost too many of these little (or not-so-little) critters to count. Since there are so many, the best way to count them down is by category, and today, we’re doing a count of the cutest Pokemon of all time.
A word of note: many of the Pokemon on this list are the first evolutions of their type. There’s certainly a reason for that: in most species, babies are the cutest!
When I found my first Snorlax, I thought, “What could be better?” and then I hatched an egg and got my first Munchlax, and thought, “Oh boy, this is better!” Introduced in Generation IV, Munchlax is a hungry little baby of a Pokemon. It’s physically adorable, and it doesn’t hurt that I relate to this Pokemon on a personal level: I won’t ever say no to snacks. This little baby Snorlax is just so freaking adorable, I almost can’t handle how cute it is!
For all the tea (or coffee) lovers out there, it doesn’t get much cuter than Sinistea, a ghostly Pokemon that first showed up in Generation VIII. This little ghost of a teacup is so adorable it almost hurts to look at it! It’s like a haunted utensil from Beauty and the Beast (here’s looking at you, Chip!). This little cup is just so overwhelmingly, unbelievably cute. All the ghost type Pokemon are incredible, but Sinistea is undeniably the cutest of all the ghosts!
For any Aussies out there (or just anyone who loves adorable critters,) Komala is a Generation VII koala Pokemon that is just too cute! Komala is a sleepy little koala which clings to its small log in the same way that koalas cling to the trees they sleep in. This little dude, with his sleepy face and adorable little paws, it’s just so cute, I can’t even handle it.
For a little bit of halloween cuteness, the cutest little pumpkin comes in the form of Pumpkaboo, a Generation VI Pokemon. This hauntingly adorable Pokemon is the counterpart of Phantump, and while Phantump is an excellent Pokemon, if you’re going by cutes alone, Pumpkaboo is the best of the pair! What could be better than having a little jack o’lantern to keep you company on your adventures through the world of Pokemon?
A list of the cutest Pokemon wouldn’t be complete without the Generation VII Cutiefly (it’s right there in the name). Cutiefly is absolutely adorable with those little wings and big eyes, but the cutest thing about Cutiefly is how tiny it is compared to all the other Pokemon you run into. It’s always a sweet treat to bump into this little cutie when you’re out in the wild areas.
It’s a mouse guys! An adorable, giant-eared mouse! Well, not really a mouse, but close! Minccino, of Generation V, is a teeny little gray Pokemon (chinchilla if you want to get technical, but I’ll always think of it as a mouse). I don’t fully understand why they made a chinchilla Pokemon and then named it Minccino— that’s such a mouse name— but either way, it’s so cute!!
The first evolutions of the starter Pokemon are often the cutest ones around, and that holds true for Turtwig, one of the Sinnoh region starters. This little turtle-ish Pokemon with a leaf sprouting from its head is every plant-lover’s Pokemon dream. It’s so itty-bitty, and I can just imagine how adorable it would be to see this little guy chomp down on some leafy greens (even though that’s kind of cannibalism). As far as starter Pokemon go, Turtwig is definitely one of the cutest!
Piplup, from Generation IV, is the cutest penguin you can even imagine! Blue, big-eyed, and with flat little feet and teeny wings, everything about Piplup makes you want to scoop it up and snuggle it. The wintery Pokemon are often some of the most beautiful because of their icy colors, and Piplup combines those gorgeous colors with all the adorableness of a little baby penguin. Does it get any better?
This Generation I Pokemon will forever be a fan favorite. Squirtle is recognized by people who haven’t even played Pokemon before, and if you asked 100 people on the street which Pokemon they thought was the cutest, Squirtle would be guaranteed to end up on that poll list. I mean, gosh, it’s a little blue turtle: what more could you ask for? There’s a reason the classic Pokemon will remain forever on the list of best Pokemon, and Squirtle is one of the cutest of those very first originals.
Another Generation I cutie comes in the form of Bulbasaur, the seed-growing little monster of a Pokemon. Something about that little smile, those tiny claws, and that giant plant growing on its back makes Bulbasaur one of the cutest Pokemon to ever grace our Nintendo screens. If I had a Bulbasaur plushie my life would be complete. When Bulbasaur showed up in Detective Pikachu, I almost lost my mind: it’s just that cute.
What could be cuter than an adorable Pokemon with some serious psychic abilities? Psyduck, from Generation I, is technically a duck, but also looks quite a bit like a platypus, so basically, it’s two of the most adorable creatures out there combined into one! Psyduck is another one that has been reenvisioned for the most recent Pokemon fans in Detective Pikachu, and I’ve gotta say, I love that they gave us a new version of Psyduck to fall in love with. Whenever Psyduck has a mental breakdown, all I want to do is give it a snuggle to help it calm down!
Oddish is certainly an odd little Pokemon from Generation I. The little blue body combined with the leafy green sprouts coming off the top make this little guy a classically delightful Pokemon, and in my personal opinion, one of the cutest of them all. It’s hard to say exactly what it is about Oddish that makes it so adorable, but there it is all the same, one of the cutest Pokemon spanning all the generations.
Gotta Catch ‘Em All
Even after reading about all of these cuties, you might be thinking to yourself, “What about _____?” There are so many Pokemon out there, it’d be near impossible to make a list that includes all of the cutest ones. If you’re looking for other cuties, or you just want to catch a few adorable little guys you haven’t found yet, you’ve just gotta keep playing!
