Fortnite v16.20: Off-road tires, Creative matchmaking, Aloy Cup

Early on Tuesday, April 13, Epic Games released the Fortnite v16.20 update, which featured the first vehicle mod, off-road tires, and a number of other small changes. After a few hours of downtime, we’ve been able to see these new features in action.

Chonkers Off-Road Tires

The most notable addition from the update is the new vehicle mod. Found in various garages around the map, these tires give players more control over car movement, the ability to climb steep surfaces and a bouncy suspension.

Tires can be thrown at a car to be used or thrown at the ground to provide a bounce for players.

Creative Matches

Similar to creating private lobbies, players can now enter “Creative” matches with a max of 50 players. This adds a whole new level of entertainment, especially for content creators looking for a unique video.

New Aloy Duos Cup

Along with the patch notes, @FortniteStatus said on Twitter, “Sharpen those bows skills and focus up for a special Duos Cup.” According to Epic Games’ website, the Aloy Cup starts Wednesday, April 14, only on PlayStation, and will feature a scoring system favoring eliminations with a bow.

It’s going to be very interesting to see Fortnite competitive with all the special bows in the game, and this cup should be an insane way to kick that off.

Also, on Friday, April 16, a new Aloy and Lara LTM will be available. The duo mode will be a loot-locked battle using only a craftable bow (Aloy) or dual pistols (Lara).

Bug Fixes

Fortnite Status also Tweeted out a link to its Trello page, noting the key issues addressed by the update, which included:

  • Code Green Wrap not appearing correctly.

Battle Royale

  • “Get a headshot with a bow” Quest fixed.
  • “Travel distance while swimming” Quest fixed.
  • Arena playlist issues. (Elaborated on in the update)
  • Storm visibility is clear when using Performance Mode.
  • Collection Book Character #17 not appearing on the Island.
  • Slurpshrooms and Coconuts temporarily disabled.

  • Start with ‘Pickaxe’ Creator setting still spawning with a Pickaxe.
  • Vehicles not moving properly in Creative.

Save the World

  • The “Directive: Mission Alert 2!” quest is not properly tracking completions.
  • The “Directive: Mission Alert 2!” quest is not properly tracking completions.

  • Cosmetics in Lobby appearing blurry on Nintendo Switch.
  • 3D resolution reset itself even if the player saved the settings.

How long will it take for Epic Games to release another update? Probably another Fortnite. We at Syft will keep you posted on all things Fortnite until then.
