Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade is essentially an enhanced version of Final Fantasy VII Remake that takes advantage of the high-performance capabilities of the PlayStation 5. The game will feature a Graphics Optimization Mode, which will prioritize the display of graphics at 4K resolution. There will also be a Performance Optimization Mode that focuses on maintaining a 60-fps framerate. Loading times will improve significantly along with the addition of a brand new Photo Mode with editing capabilities. The Photo Mode also appears to be able to capture cutscene moments.

It was further announced that individuals who own the original PlayStation 4 Final Fantasy VII Remake will be able to upgrade to the enhanced PlayStation 5 version for free and carry over their previous save data. The DLC episode featuring Yuffie will be available for purchase after upgrading to Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.

Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade most notably adds a special DLC episode that will focus on Yuffie Kisaragi, a playable character from Final Fantasy VII and a major character throughout the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. Yuffie did not appear in the first episode of Final Fantasy VII Remake as the sequence of events covered in the game do not yet include her part in the story. There has been major speculation that she would make her proper debut in the episodic remakes somewhere in part two of the series.

Additionally, in the original Final Fantasy VII, Yuffie was actually an optional party member who, through proper actions, could be recruited. With respect to her character expanding throughout the series and now the onslaught of this DLC episode focusing solely on her, Yuffie’s role in Final Fantasy VII Remake has met the general expectations of becoming definitive.

The DLC trailer showcased Yuffie clad in a Moogle costume and working with what appears to be members of Avalanche, an eco-terrorist insurgent group in opposition to Final Fantasy VII’s autocratic force, the Shinra Electric Power Company. The episode seems to take place during the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake, particularly depicting events after “Chapter 7 – A Trap is Sprung”. Yuffie is a ninja from Wutai, a once-great nation that fell after a war with Shinra. With the aim to restore Wutai to its former glory, she became a Materia hunter, and subsequently teamed up with Avalanche out of their shared goals. Gaining a new ally, Sonon Kusakabe, the Yuffie Episode is set to focus on these two characters and their story during the events of Final Fantasy VII Remake’s first episodic installment.

Appearing to retain most of the gameplay mechanics from Final Fantasy VII Remake, the new episode showcases Yuffie’s specific playstyle, in particular, her use of shurikens as her main weapon. She is shown to have long reach, even capable of obtaining items and treasure from afar. With respect to her nimble and agile abilities as a ninja, she is also shown to be able to scale steep areas and make use of acrobatic movements to travel between wide-spread platforms. Regarding Sonon’s playstyle, he appears to function similarly to Red XIII in Final Fantasy VII Remake, serving as a non playable guest character.

While further details regarding Yuffie’s mission in the new DLC episode have yet to be announced, one of the most interesting takeaways from the announcement trailer was the appearance of a familiar face from the PlayStation 2 game Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII, Weiss the Immaculate. Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII was a title that focused on Final Fantasy VII playable (And also optional) character Vincent Valentine and his battle with Deepground, a secret military organization apparently led by Weiss. This title also featured the most recent events relative to the timeline of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII. Yuffie played a major role in assisting Vincent on his mission, having a great presence throughout the story of Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII. It can be speculated that Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade’s DLC may attribute elements from Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII into its story.
