In a press release from Evil Geniuses, the organization announced that they would be committing 25 percent of their ‘Genius League’ professional internship program candidacies towards applicants from HBCUs that are reached through this partnership.

The Genius League program has shown proven success, as many of its past interns have gone onto several jobs and roles within the esports workforce.

“Through this partnership,” the organization said, “EG is cementing a direct relationship with the student populations at Morehouse College, North Carolina Central University, Oakwood University, Johnson C. Smith University, and 16 other prestigious Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the United States.”

Cxmmunity, according to their site, is an organization that is committed to increase the participation of minorities within the esports and video game industry, in order help promote an equal opportunity as new jobs and professions are being created. They work with underserved K-12 students as well as HBCU students to increase their skills in STEM, digital content and business management.

“In my experience with HBCUs, often the most prominent hurdle is access to viable employment opportunities within emerging industries,” said Chris Peay, co-founder of Cxmmunity, in the release. “Evil Geniuses is the perfect organization to surmount the opportunity gap for these talented candidates and help them translate their passion for the industry into a lasting career.”

This announcement is the first of many to come from the EG and Cxmmunity partnership. More are expected to be announced throughout the course of 2021 and beyond.
