Craft Modder Brings Third-Person Cyberpunk Play to PC

It’s safe to say the early returns on Cyberpunk 2077 have been polarizing. Some laud developers for the eloquently written stories which feel less like a grind and more like a theatrical experience. On the other hand, everyone and their mother has heard about the copious amount of bugs. Annnndddddd there’s also the fact the game is in first-person.

Seriously, what is the point of spending a grueling amount of time meticulously customizing your character IF YOU CAN’T SEE THEM?!?

Fortunately, there are people out there that believe in taking justice into their own hands. And by people, we mean dedicated modders. Much to the excitement of many gamers with a gripe, Modder Jelle Bakker has released the first version of their third-person mod on Nexus Mods. Before we go any further, it should be noted that the mod works only for PC gamers. For all other non-PC players wishing for third-person, stay patient. You never know when your time will come.

Sure, it’s wonky, but it does what it set out to do. The glaring issue is the occasional herky-jerky out-of-sync character animations due to the game made void of any third-person visuals in mind. With the slight glitching and higher frame rates, it may appear that V (the mod adapts to both male and female) is gliding rather than walking. Gamers will also have to deal with hiccups in animation during combat. Like we said, it’s an early mod so it’s going to come with some caveats.

It’s easy to understand why fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the first-person experience because it was a seriously out-of-character move for CD Projekt Red. In the past, those familiar with CD Projekt know their games have been third-person focused — which is what gamers would have hoped for with Cyberpunk 2077. But alas, this was not the case.

In the end, the game certainly has a lot going for it with storytelling, gameplay, character design, and game extent. But if you’re on PC and want to give the mod a whirl, check out this Youtube video for installation directions.

Enjoy your journey through Night City in a new perspective!
