ana Steps Away from OG, Retires from Competitive Dota

Anathan “ana” Pham, OG’s position one carry player has finally decided to call it quits from the game barely two months after rejoining the team in April. The two-time TI champion had helped OG win close to $30 million in his tenure.

The decision came barely three weeks prior to the start of The International’s European Open Qualifiers which begin on July 7, 2021.

OG failed to qualify for the Dota Pro Circuit’s first Major, the ONE Esports Singapore Major, earlier this year. Back then, MidOne was on its roster. Shortly after failing to qualify for the Major, OG parted ways with MidOne. Then, ana came back to the OG squad after a year-long break, just in time before the next TI.

But unlike OG’s 2018-19 runs, far from qualifying for The International 10, the team didn’t even manage to qualify for the WePlay AniMajor, the second and final DPC 2021 Major. ana had ‘been on the fence’ about retiring from Dota for quite some time now.

“(I) am ready to move on to a new chapter in my life,” ana said in a statement. “Long story short, Dota has been the biggest part of my life for the longest time and I am starting to find and appreciate other things in life that I want to learn about and explore.”

ana was already deemed one of the best players in the Dota competitive scene. His departure will only solidify the good times he has lived and shown us fans, a memory immortalized.

As is tradition:
